Song Meaning

Song Meaning:

The meaning behind “Kill em with kindness” by Selena Gomez. I used the website songfacts.com to find out what Selena Gomez meant by her song “Kill em with Kindness”.

Selena Gomez spoke to Just Jared about the message of the song. She said that she thinks that people don’t realise that their words are so meaningful and some people need to hear that a liitle more. She also mentioned about social media, she said that there is a lot that happens now with social media, because people have a lot of access, people can have a lot of access to your heart and feelings, she said and that is frightening to her.

She also said that she thinks that it is important to understand that if you combat it and don’t give in, it will just make you feel so much better. She said that If she retaliated to everything people said about her she would have such a heavy conscience, she said she would want to say something back but she says the best thing for her has been turning the other cheek.

Selena said during her Revival album listening party, ”Everybody needs to hear that, I know it is so much easier to be mean, maybe more fun sometimes. But being able to wake up in the morning and look at yourself in the mirror and know that you gave it your best when people were coming at you at your worst- you just have to Kill em with kindness.

Selena’s favourite quote from her revival album is “We don’t have to fall from grace. Put down your weapons you fight with. And kill em with kindness.”

The inspiration behind the song is quite straight forward. Selena said “You have to wake up with yourself every morning , and people are going to give you their worst, and its easy to be mean. I’m Latin; I can be mean, real fast, if I want. But I don’t feel good about myself, and I think people need to hear a message like this.”

Selena explained why6 her lyrics and so meaningful to here when she was performing the song in Jakarta, Indonesia July 23rd 2016. Her lyrics are so meaningful to her “Because I get really frustrated. I get stupid sometimes. I say things that I don’t mean or that come out wrong just because I care so badly, but the thing is, at the end of the day no war in anger is ever won.” “I do know deep down in my heart I have to believe we can love each other and always be kind no matter what it takes in us. I believe that we can do that no matter what.”
